Our Supreme optical amplification lenses offer the highest standard of performance function in visual and photographic applications

The Supreme Photovisual Barlow lens system marks a new highpoint in Barlow design. We are very proud of these new products and believe that they offer the modern astronomer a new standard in optical, aesthetic and functional design excellence. No other Barlow looks like the Supreme or functions like it. The optics are manufactured in Japan by one of the world’s most respected lens makers. For our flagship 2x Apo model (AC610) the optical system was designed without compromise. The three-element design offers truly superb performance with a stunning 27mm clear aperture (we physically could not make the clear aperture any greater for fear of the barrel being too delicate and thin). The 3x model also has 27mm of clear aperture, making both models perfectly suited for photographic as well as a wide range of visual applications. The edge-blackened optics, full multi-coating on all surfaces, and baffling inside the barrel ensure that the SPVx23e (Gold Top) has a peerless level of image sharpness and contrast. Unlike most other Barlow/amplification lenses, the Supreme does not use the usual cross screw fastener to hold the eyepiece in place - instead a sleek locking collar is rotated to lock the eyepiece in a perfect central position.

A nylon collet actually does the locking - closing invisibly around the eyepiece barrel firmly but gently with just a light fraction of a twist of the lock ring. The nylon collet ensures that there is no risk of scratching or denting the finish of the eyepiece barrel. The high optical standard and elegant design of the eyepiece locking system is all that would be needed to satisfy the most demanding visual observer - but the Supreme has a surprise hidden under its elegant colour-coded locking ring. Simply unscrew the lock ring to expose a full sized male T-thread that allows all standard digital and 35mm T-thread adaptor rings to be screwed into position! The combined lock ring and T-thread is a true killer feature - but with their functional elegance of execution, the Supreme Barlows are arguably the finest 2x and 3x Barlows in the world.

The LowMax Barlows are part of our new HFO (High Fidelity Optics) range of products. These well-made 2x Barlow lenses offer excellent performance at modest cost - the LowMax AC590 has full edge-blackened multi-coated optics in a metal lens cell (black part) that can be unscrewed and attached directly to the standard filter thread of a 1.25” eyepiece for an image amplification of 1.5x. The LowMax T AC632 offers similar excellent performance, but with the added benefit of photographic connectivity via a standard male T-thread. Any standard SLR T-ring adaptor can be attached to the LowMax T and provide close-up imaging possibilities with film and digital SLR cameras.

These are great all-round Barlows in a low-profile “short” style configuration. The quality achromatic doublet offers excellent performance as a 2x and 1.5x image amplification system, and works well with nearly all 1.25” eyepieces. It’s not just optical performance that make these Barlows stand out from the crowd; handsome styling and finishing touches establish its pedigree as a top quality accessory.

Both Barlows are supplied with plastic end-cap and a deluxe aluminium dust plug. The Barlows are packed in a reusable plastic case with foam lining.

4x Imagemate™
A high-powered image amplification system for webcam and CCD/video imaging

Designed primarily for use with modern webcam, video and other imaging stystems - the compact barrel of the Imagemate™ houses a multi-coated twin element lens system to magnify the focal length of your instrument (and, therefore, the image) by a factor of 4x. The Imagemate delivers the kind of magnification that is usually achieved by eyepiece projection but without the fuss - and avoids the awkwardness (and high risk of “dust-bunnies”) of “doubling up” Barlows to achieve high resolution images with all types of cameras. Although the Imagemate is an ideal amlification system for modern astro-photography it also functions amazingly for purely visual use when combined with your favourite eyepieces. Fits all telescopes with a 1.25” eyepiece holder and all cameras with 1.25” nosepieces. Supplied in a “bolt-bottle” for safe dust-free storage.

The 1.6x Magni-Max Image Amplifier
1.25” thread-on supplementary lens for visual and photographic image amplification

A compact simple supplementary lens barrel that boosts magnification
and image scale by 1.6x.

The Magni-Max 1.6x supplementary lens unit threads directly onto the nosepiece of the DigimaxT 40 AC520 eyepiece system (and any other 1.25” eyepiece equipped with a standard filter thread) and increases the magnification by effectively reducing the focal length of the eyepiece by around 60%. In the case of the DigimaxT 40mm that’s a reduction down to 24mm! The Magni-Max gives a magnification power boost of around 1.6x but fully preserves the vignette reducing and camera positioning features of the DigimaxT 40. The Magni-Max has many uses and performs as brilliantly visually as it does photographically. The Magni-Max can be fitted to camera (webcams, video camera etc) nosepieces and delivers the same 60% magnification increase. One of the great benefits of the Magni-Max is that, unlike conventional Barlow lenses, it delivers a powerful magnification boost but only increases the length of the camera or eyepiece nosepiece by 12mm! The Magni-Max supplementary lens system is a twin lens cemented construction and is fully anti-reflection multi-coated. Supplied in a dust and shock proof case.
