parallel The sheer splendour of the night sky viewed in large aperture binoculars is an experience few will forget. Used with a good-quality pair of binoculars and a full height tripod, the observing comfort of the Star-Raker makes exploring the sky at night a pure pleasure. Ideal for group viewing: One of the main benefits of the "parallel motion" design of the Star-Raker is that the mounted binocular or telescope retains the same angle relative to the ground for any change in observing height. It sounds complicated but this means you can centre a target in the eyepiece and simply move the perfectly balanced binocular vertically up or down to the height of the next viewer, and the target will still be perfectly centred - even for children! The Star-Raker uses a retained counterweight system to allow it to be quickly balanced for use with a wide range of instruments. From large binoculars (up to 3kg with standard weight - more with other weights available separately) to small telescopes and spotting scopes. The Star-Raker must be mounted on a suitable tripod (see below) and it has a base that can be attached to photo-tripods using a 3/8" BSW fitting screw. Please note, you will need a specific clamp to suit your particular type of binocular or telescope. See below for details. A full height "Pillar" tripod is available for the Star-Raker. A natural ash deluxe wooden tripod with accessory tray and deluxe ash panning handle is also available. |

mirror The Sky-Mirror is quite simply the most comfortable way to observe the night-sky with binoculars. The experience of gazing down into a clear sky full of stars with the Sky-Mirror has to be felt to be believed! From the standpoint of sheer comfort and convenience the Sky-Mirror cannot be beaten. The mounting can be used on a table top and will allow an amazing 75% sky coverage from a typical sitting position. The comfort and convenience can be enhanced by fitting the mounting to the Deluxe Azimuth turntable (pictured right). The Sky-Mirror is fastened with three key bolts to the turntable and the whole unit can be moved and carried as one even with your binoculars in position making the whole system easily portable. The Sky-Mirror is precision engineered for superb performance and a lifetime of viewing pleasure. The main body parts are machined from black anodised aluminium plate with other parts cut from solid aluminium bar. The mirror support tray is specially constructed from aluminium sheet with stainless steel bearings. The viewing mirror is first surface silvered and is supplied with a protective lid for storage. The mirror support tray and the binocular support pillar have been designed to offer a large range of adjustment to accommodate a wide range of modern binoculars. The Sky-Mirror is suitable for use with most binoculars up to a magnification maximum of around 20 to 25 times. A special version of our super rigid "Pylon" all steel tripod fitted with a special vernier machine head has been designed for use with the Sky-Mirror. The vernier head features a quick release platform and a azimuth pan crank handle. The slow motion adjusters can be disengaged instantly to allow rapid repositioning of the Sky-Mirror. The Sky-Mirror has been designed to be used by everyone who loves to look at the night sky but many of it's main features have a special appeal to astronomers with disabilities. The eyepieces of the binocular remain in a fixed convenient attitude regardless of target position. The axis of azimuth (east-west) rotation is close to the observer requiring very little observer movement to cover large areas of sky. Because of this the Sky-Mirror can be comfortably operated from a wheel chair. Sky locations ranging from the horizon directly in front of the observer to a point over and behind the head of the observer can be accessed simply by tilting the mirror. The Sky-Mirror has an extremely robust construction and the observer can make heavy (steadying) contact with the binoculars without losing position or disturbing the image. The Sky-Mirror is supplied in a tough, fully fitted, injection moulded carry case and comes complete with a AC349 18mm standard binocular clamp (other models available separately see below). An anti-dewing heater system is available as an accessory (can be supplied fitted or later as an accessory) and requires a suitable heater controller and a power supply (see Anti-Dewing section). |
