A superb wide-field eyepiece - and so much more! The DigimaxT 40 (AC520) is a multi-coated 40mm Super Plössl eyepiece that offers terrific wide-field views of the night sky but has also been “maxt” for the specialist needs of digital photography. It allows a wide range of popular digital cameras and video camcorders to be attached to any telescope with 1.25” eyepiece fitting for perfect digital astro-imaging. Like so many of BC&F Astro Engineering’s most innovative products, the DigimaxT 40 looks deceptively simple on the outside - however, it is in fact one of the most versatile and carefully-designed products we have ever developed!
The system comprises three main components: 1. An optical tube assembly with locking slide barrel and removable T-threaded eyecup. 2. A parfocal extension piece. 3. A standard 1.25” nosepiece. Unscrewing the rubber eyecup (1) reveals a T-threaded lockable sliding barrel - when fitted with a digital camera, this feature allows precise control of the camera position and eliminates the common problem of vignetting. The specially designed optical tube assembly allows the camera lens to get as close as possible to the eyepiece optics (partly thanks to the design of the Adap-T camera adaptor rings) without any risk of a nasty collision. |
The standard 1.25” nosepiece (a useful accessory in itself, since it is threaded for filters and has an anti-slip retaining groove as well a T-mount thread!) is removable - as is the extension piece (2) - and can be replaced by other nosepieces (available separately; eg. AC547 - a low profile combination nosepiece ideally suited for use with Newtonian reflectors, Microscopes and C/CS lens fittings - and AC548 - a smaller 23mm nosepiece suited for use with many popular microscopes).
The DigimaxT 40 works brilliantly with virtually all astro-telescopes on the market - however, as with many of our products we have included a special feature to appeal to Meade ETX and LX200 Classic users: unscrewing the extension piece (2) from the optical tube reveals another female socket, threaded to allow the optical tube assembly to be attached directly to the Meade ETX visual-back thread and the LX200 Classic 1.25” eyepiece holder thread!
All our Adap-T digital camera and standard T-ring adaptors will of course fit the DigimaxT 40. BC&F Astro Engineering has never before been able to offer astronomers this amount of features and imaging flexibility in one single product, at such an affordable price.
