The Solar-Mate observing shade for Coronado PST
 

This combined observing shade and eyepiece holder will greatly improve observer comfort by minimising glare. It’s a simple fact that a telescope offering a moderately dim eyepiece view like the Coronado PST will perform significantly better in terms of contrast and detail if steps are taken to reduce local glare. Our handsome glare shield is designed to cast a perfect shadow over the eyepiece region of the telescope and create a mini-environment for the observer to ensure that the eyes are always in a comfortable shadow when near the eyepiece. The Solar-Mate is easy to fit and requires no tools ­ it simply fits underneath the PST between the tripod and the base of the PST. On the rear face of the Solar-Mate is a panel of useful facts about the physics of the sun. The shield can also hold three eyepieces conveniently to hand; however, in this role it is only effective up to about 70 degrees altitude.

For even greater views and observer comfort, use the Solar-Mate with our winged rubber eyecups AC418 and our Blackout observing hood AC470 (click on stock code for more info). The Solar-Mate is made of lightweight aluminium and is finished in durable black resin powder coat.

The AZTech altazimuth mount and wooden tripod
Ideal for use with the PST
 

The AZTech is an altazimuth mounting system with worm and gear hand-operated slow motions on both the azimuth and altitude axis. The mounting is fitted to a variable-height black hardwood tripod (fully adjustable from a minimum height of 91cm [36”] to a maximum height of 140cm [55”]). A metal combined leg stabiliser and eyepiece tray ensures the rigidity of the tripod. The leg stabiliser simply clips into position - no nuts and bolts to fiddle with and risk losing! The precision worm and gear sets offer smooth tracking on both axis even at high magnifications, and are supplied with extended flexible control handles. The CNC manufactured mini-dovetail telescope mounting plate has been specifically designed to fit the base of the Coronado Personal Solar Telescope, but can be used with a wide variety of small telescopes provided that they have a 1/4” Whitworth tripod fitting. Supplied complete with mini-dovetail plate for PST and other scopes, wooden tripod, eyepiece tray and extended flexible drive handles.

Universal Solar Finder
A safe and accurate solar finder that easily attaches (permanent or temporary) to all telescopes large or small

Anyone who has used a solar observation filter or made observations by the eyepiece projection method knows the frustrations of accurately pointing an instrument at the sun. This cleverly designed finder has two collimatable targets: one permanently fixed, and the other magnetic and repositionable. The finder has a universal mounting platform (identical to the one supplied with the Easy-Aim Red dot finder AC544) with self-adhesive strips for permanent attachment. The kit is also supplied with a Velcro strap for quick temporary fitting to a wide range of instruments. Though compact enough for the smallest scopes, it is precise enough to point even long focal length telescopes accurately. Perfect for use with all Coronado MaxScopes and PST.

Polarising 1.25” filter
A simple ND polarising filter to reveal more detail and improve contrast in Ha solar observation with Coronado and other Ha telescopes

This simple polarising filter will do much to improve the solar disc detail seen with hydrogen alpha (Ha)-based solar observing telescopes. The filter simply screws to the barrel of any 1.25” eyepiece. The eyepiece is inserted into the eyepiece holder as usual, and because the Ha filter systems cause the light reaching the eyepiece to be polarised, all that is required to alter the contrast of the disc features is simple rotation of the eyepiece in the holder. The filter can improve display of detail on the solar disc by as much as 20%. The filter is not generally effective at improving the contrast of limb detail. The filter works with all apertures of Coronado filter unit and telescopes, and is particularly useful when used with the Coronado Personal Solar Telescope (PST). The filter is supplied in a foam-lined dust-proof case.
